The journey of the Spanish Volunteer Division, also known as the Blue Division, was long and arduous. It began with the departure of the expeditionary contingent in July 1941 and culminated in its deployment in the Novgorod sector, south of Leningrad, in October 1941.
The crossing of the Volkhov River marked the start of days fed with bitter fighting, fierce combat and drama, during which a handful of Spanish soldiers stood out through their meritorious service.
